Theological handbooks and companions

Theological handbooks and companions are an excellent place to explore current scholarly conversations on theologians and theological topics in all periods of church history. The video also demonstrates how to request a scan of a book chapter if the resource is not available online.

Library search for books by and about an author

In this video (no audio) you will see how to limit a search of the library's discovery system--library.wheaton.edu--to just books (ebooks and printed) by or about a figure in church history using the limit options in the left navigation.

The example search is Hildegard of Bingen and you will see how to:

  1. limit the initial results to books;
  2. further limit to Hildegard as an author (primary sources);
  3. remove author limit and limit results to Hildegard as the subject (secondary sources);
  4. request a scanned chapter from any print book;
  5. expand your search results to include books held in other Illinois academic libraries (I-Share) and apply the same filters, author and subject.

Searching Atla religion database for articles and essays

This video introduces you to an essential resource for theological research, the Atla religion database, and demonstrates how to effectively search and narrow your results. The video should end with the words "interlibrary loan" but they were cut off in the editing process.
