This video provides an introduction to theological handbooks and companions and addresses:

• Why they are excellent guides to current theological conversations.
• How to search for this type of literature in the library search.
• How to request a pdf scan of a handbook chapter through ILLiad. 

In this video you will see how to limit a search of the library's discovery system--library.wheaton.edu--to just books (ebooks and printed) by or about a figure in church history using the limit options in the left navigation.

The example search is Hildegard of Bingen and you will see how to:

1. limit the initial results to books;
2. further limit to Hildegard as an author (primary sources);
3. remove author limit and limit results to Hildegard as the subject (secondary sources);
4. expand your search results to include books held in other Illinois academic libraries (I-Share) and apply the same filters, author and subject.

This video introduces you to an essential resource for theological research, the Atla religion database, and demonstrates how to effectively search and narrow your results.
