Most art historical and scholarly writing uses the Turabian/University of Chicago citation style. Ask your instructor if this citations style or a different one (MLA, APA) is preferred for your writing project.
There are numerous online reference pages for Turabian/Chicago style that are easy to use. The Citation Quick Guide page from the University of Chicago and the Chicago section of the Purdue OWL are good places to start.
