Tutorial Content Overview

The AIS Information Literacy Tutorial contains 7 sections. Each section presents content and gives students opportunities to test their understanding through practice questions and quiz questions. The sections are:

  3. Research Databases
  4. Finding Articles
  5. Faith & Learning
  6. Using Information
  7. Conclusion

Learning Outcomes

The AIS tutorial builds upon the FYS library tutorial. It intentionally reinforces concepts from the FYS tutorial (e.g., types of information, evaluation), and attempts to connect students to a broader range of resources, and encourage more complex thinking.

Each section has specific objectives:

Section 2: Starting your Research
Upon completing this section, students will be able to:

  • Understand how scholarship is an ongoing conversation 
  • Understand that human authority is constructed and contextual, and evaluate sources accordingly
  • Recognize the elements of a good research question
  • Understand the role and importance of ethics in research

Section 3: Research Databases
Upon completing this section, students will be able to:

  • Understand different types of databases
  • Select a database appropriate to their topic
  • Locate a subject guide related to their topic
  • Locate journals by title

Section 4: Finding Articles
Upon completing this section, students will be able to:

  • Search a database according to specific criteria
  • Combine search terms to broaden or narrow their search

Section 5: Faith & Learning
Upon completing this section, students will be able to:

  • Understand various approaches to take when integrating Christian faith with a topic
  • Recognize tools and sources to facilitate this integration

Section 6: Using Information
Upon completing this section, students will be able to:

  • Locate elements of a citation from a sources
  • Recognize and replicate good information synthesis
  • Understand different organizational methods
