Installation:

  • Download Zotero 5.0.  
  • Install the connector for your browser, Safari, Firebox, or Chrome.  Zotero does not work with Internet Explorer or Edge.
    • You do not need to install the Word add-on, it is installed automatically.

Installing Zotero on a Chromebook

Zotero standalone can be installed on a Chromebook if you feel comfortable using Linux on your Chromebook.  Instructions for installing Zotero standalone on a Chromebook.


I you are not able to use Linux to install Zotero on a Chromebook, you can run Zotero from a USB/flash drive on any campus PC.

  1. On a campus or other PC, go to Portableapps.com
  2. Click on "Apps" in the page's top menu.
  3. Scroll down to the "internet" section and find "Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition."
  4. Click the link to download the installer file.  Note where it is saved.
  5. Go to the installer file, double-click to start the install and when asked where to install it, direct it to install on your USB/flash drive.
  6. You will find the "FirefoxPortable" application on your flash drive.
  7. Open FireFox Portable, browse to Zoter.org,
    • When on the download screen, select the link "Looking for Zotero 4.0?"
    • Install Zotero.4.0 for Firefox.
  8. You should be able to use Firefox Portable to save citations to Zotero on your USB/flash drive.
